Reciently, I added a DRO to my Bridgeport in the Y axis. I have not done the X axis yet because the DRO cost a little too much. The small linear slide I used has a range of 12″, more than enough for the Y axis. I drilled and tapped holes into the casting and bolted the moving slide to the saddle using a piece of 90 degree angle iron. It was on hand and convenient. It all went together nicely and does a great job. Now I don’t need to worry about the backlash in the Y axis.
